first trimester

The first trimester was definitely an interesting experience for me.

We found out we were pregnant around week 4-6. The whole week thing confuses me especially because you are apparently pregnant before actually being pregnant. You learn very quickly that the date they ask all the time is the first day of your last period. Know this date, ‘cause they will ask it time and time again.

During the first trimester, I didn't get morning sickness, but I had an intense case of nausea around food. I was never good at eating regularly during the days pre-pregnancy, and quickly learned that this needed to change. Once I realized that eating right away in the morning, then again by 10, then noon, then 3, then 6 and then one more time before bed, was how things were gonna have to be, the nausea tapered off and things got better.

But, the one thing that was not something to be fixed was how tired I was, especially with it being the end of the year and wedding season. With so many more shoots and so many more weddings left, tiredness was part of my pregnancy story.  Not telling anyone why I was tired, why I could barely last past 8pm, which cut down on all my editing time and work time, well - it was really weighing on me.

My emotions got a the best of me in this trimester too, because my body was changing only for me. I wasn't really changing physically, but I felt really different. This posed a bit of a gap between me and my man which was hard because we are always on the same page. Suddenly, I felt a little alone like all these changes were happening, but he wasn't understanding them.  It took a few emotional talks where we had to be really open with one another, but in the end, it made us stronger and better. Being on the same page as your partner and keeping the communication open is so so important, especially in this life changing experience.
